About a year ago I added a welcome message that you could see when you turned the scanner on. Now I want to change the message and I have misplaced the paper work that had the directions for adding a welcome message. Thank you for your help in this matter.

That's going to depend on which software you are using.
In Uniden's software, BCD396T_UASD, the "Welcome screen" message can be edited/changed in the Configuration editor. Open the configuration file you are using (where you've selected the systems you want to monitor). The fields you want to change are under the "Miscellaneous" tab.
In BCTool, the screen you want is under the "Radio" drop down menu; select 'Radio settings'.
In FreeSCAN, Scanner->Set Scanner Options->Select the General tab
In ARC396, select the Configuration editor under the View drop-down menu. The message screen is on the General Settings tab.
