WELD COUNTY - The Colorado State Patrol says an 11-year-old girl died Saturday after a driver apparently swerved to avoid a bumper in the road.
It happened around 6:15 p.m. on Interstate 25 northbound, near the Erie exit.
According to Cpl. Larson with the CSP, the male driver of a Subaru, whose name and age were not immediately available, lost control and went from the left lane to the right lane, striking a Ford Expedition.
The Ford Expedition slid sideways and rolled. According to Jesse Hodgson with Mountain View Fire, an 11-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
Hodgson says up to five people in the Expedition were taken to area hospitals. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.
No other information was released Saturday night.
