FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: April 10, 2010 Time: 4:30pm

On April 10, 2010 at 2:04am, state troopers were dispatched to a fatal crash on Weld County Road 49 (WCR 49) at Weld County Road 30 in which an adult male was struck and killed while walking in the lane of traffic.

Troopers have determined that a Jeep Cherokee was southbound on WCR 49 when the driver lost control and went off of the right side of the roadway causing the vehicle to roll on to its top. The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle and began walking southbound in the northbound lane of WCR 49.

A short time later, a 1998 Acura sedan traveling northbound on WCR 49 struck the driver of the Jeep as he walked in the northbound lane. The driver of the Acura was transported to Northern Colorado Medical Center with moderate injuries. A passenger in the Acura was not injured.

The driver of the Jeep, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. No names are being released at this time pending the notification of family.

This marked the third fatal crash investigated by CSP this morning between approximately midnight and 2:00am. “We had a total of four people killed and several others injured in a two-hour period along the Front Range,” said Sergeant John Hahn, spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol. “Each of them has a devastating impact on families and communities and serve as a tragic reminder of the importance of driving safely on our roads.”

The investigation is on-going.
