Crash kills 7 on I-25 near Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN — Seven people were killed early Thanksgiving morning when their vehicle plunged off Interstate 25, crashed into a concrete embankment and burst into flames, authorities said.
There were no survivors.
The dead include an infant and a toddler, both boys, but investigators haven't determined whether they and the other victims were from the same family, Colorado State Trooper Gilbert Mares said.
Also killed were three other males, including the driver, and two females. Mares said their ages weren't immediately known.
The Chevrolet Suburban was registered in Alberta, Canada, he said.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 25 near Johnstown.
The vehicle veered into the median just before twin bridges over a county road, Mares said. It went airborne between — and parallel to — the two bridges, flew over the county road and crashed into the embankment on the other side.
"Not only is (the vehicle) burned, it has a lot of crushed deformation from hitting the concrete," Mares said.
He said weather did not appear to be a factor in the crash but investigators haven't determined whether alcohol, drugs or speed were involved.
