On March 10, 2008 at approximately 11:35 A.M., Colorado State Troopers responded to a crash on Interstate 25 East Frontage Road and Weld County Road 20. A white 1997 Chrysler was eastbound on WCR 20. A red 2001 VW Jetta was southbound on I-25 E. Frontage Rd. The Chrysler failed to stop prior to entering the blind intersection and collided with the VW.
The restrained driver of the Chrysler has been identified as Bernard Ellis, age 82 of Albuquerque, NM. Ellis was airlifted to Denver Health and later pronounced dead by a physician at Denver Health. The restrained passenger has been identified as Dolores Ellis, age 80 of Albuquerque, NM. She sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.
The restrained driver of the VW has been identified as Chris Castaneda, age
19 of Longmont, CO. Castaneda sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Longmont United Hospital. The passenger has been identified as Michael Borchert, age 19 of Ft. Lupton, CO. Borchert sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Longmont United Hospital.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.
Next of kin have been notified.
