On May 9, 2007 at approximately 3:00 pm Deputy
Porter of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office attempted to
stop a white 1994 Ford Bronco near Highway 85 and Weld
County road 6 because the vehicle had only one license
plate.
The vehicle contained a male driver and a female
passenger and would not stop after the deputy activated
his emergency equipment. The vehicle continued in an
attempt to evade deputies from the Weld County
Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol troopers,
Lochbuie Police officers, and Colorado Division of
Wildlife officers. Based on the license plate number
the vehicle was listed as stolen from Brighton.
The pursuit lasted for approximately 30 minutes
and ended after the vehicle ran out of gas on a rail
road access road between an Interstate 76 frontage road
and Weld County road 51. During the pursuit deputies
thought the suspect might be unfamiliar with the area
as he eventually drove the vehicle over remote farm
roads instead of maintained roadways.
Deputies learned the same vehicle and driver had
recently been involved in other pursuits with law
enforcement officers from Brighton and Westminster.
The driver, 27 year old Wesley Lefforge of
Brighton was arrested and booked into the Weld County
jail without bond on an outstanding warrant for a
parole violation and the following charges:
Possession of a controlled substance
Unlawful use of a controlled substance
Vehicular Eluding
Reckless Driving
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Driving while driver’s license is denied
Reckless Endangerment
Aggravated motor vehicle theft
Driving with one number plate attached
The passenger, 22 year old Nicole Plemons of
Brighton was arrested and booked into the Weld County
jail on an outstanding warrant for shoplifting,
possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use
of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $21,000.
