This afternoon at about 12:10 p.m., Colorado State Troopers were dispatched to a rollover crash on I-25 at milepost 278 near Wellington. While the crash remains under investigation, troopers have determined that a Nissan Sentra was northbound on I-25 when the vehicle went off of the left side of the road before losing control and rolling over in the center median.
The unrestrained driver, an adult female from Denver, was ejected as the car rolled. The driver was transported via ambulance, but pronounced dead a short time later. She was the vehicle's only occupant. The driver’s name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of family.
“This is a sad reminder of the importance of using a seatbelt every time you get into a vehicle,” said Sergeant John Hahn, spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol. “Time and time again we see crashes on our roads where the use of a seatbelt could possibly have made the difference.”
The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
