Looks like Wentzville PD flipped the switch. Heard them on one of the emergency management channels for a few days and now this. Hopefully this isn't going to filter down to the other agencies

I can confirm that Wentzville PD is totally encrypted now. I have not heard of any plans for any other agencies to go that way yet, but my guess is that we will slowly see other LE agencies follow what St. Louis County did over the next year or so. Sad to see this happening in St. Charles given what has been very limited encryption so far (I have only seen two tactical/secondary talk groups encrypted on the entire system until now). Unfortunately it is a sign of the times.

Sounds like St Charles City might be the next one to go encrypted as well. Hearing them broadcasting over SCC-EM2 (tgid 27017). Wentzville used the same channel prior to flipping over as well

I completely lost St. Charles City this week. Looks like they did go encrypted. Probably going to be selling off my scanner and just using the internet resources.

I love how our tax dollars pay to implement these systems, and we can't listen to them. Total B.S. Now I don't necessarily agree with the whole re-broadcasting the communications over the internet so every Tom, Dick, and Harry can pick it up on their smartphones. But if I want to purchase an expensive scanner to listen as a hobby I should be able to do that. It was funded by tax payer dollars. Where's the transparency in that.

I talked with a friend who is an alderperson of one of larger cities in St. Charles County. He said that there has been some discussion in the city he represents, but there are no plans right now to flip the switch. They did ask some intelligent questions about what encryption meant and I made my case against encrypting routine communications. I suggested that they can easily use the encrypted talk group they currently have or the use of their MDT for sensitive communications. Time will tell.
