• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

update on West Covina/Icis

According to a recent (August 07) posted document from the city of West Covina the city has elected to switch police comms to digital P25 and avoid ICIS due to cost. The document further states that the city may join the future LA county trunked system due to an expected more federal funding for that system. Go here for the document:

Interesting. Torrance opted out of ICIS a while back, now West Covina decides not to go with them either. Unless LA-RICS falls apart, I'd expect ICIS to eventually be merged into it as well. LAPD and FD are fairly committed to helping LA-RICS succeed, so now it's mostly "just" about the money. And turf, which seems a bit less of a deal than it would have been pre 9/11.

Rananthony - I'm getting a dead link on that page. Know where it might be?
