In today's NH Register:

" U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro, D-3, announced the $977,333 in funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters grant program, which will provide mobile, portable, and base radios for the departments. "

Given that it's West Haven, this should be interesting. It also wouldn't be at all surprising that the FD doesn't go encryption like the PD. At present it is straight UHF
system and by all accounts it works.

I have contacted Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro's office and requested a copy of the grant to WHFD. Stay tuned for further details.

I personally don't see what it matters if they do go E or not?
WHPD has gone E. As far as i heard from my brother in law who works for NHPD, They are in talks to go P25E and SCSU and Yale PD are also talking of contributing to going E.
That's the word, But who knows at this point.

which MFD you are referring to?

I am going to say Milford from an educated guess, Only because i was down in WH seeing family around thanksgiving and i heard Milford dispatch tell the responding units to meet PD on the encrypted channel and to switch to encrypted Tac for a hazmat response.
That is not verbatim, But it was something like that.

OK wow new to me. I listen to Milford 24/7/365 and never heard E except when they were first putting in the new system to test it out. Never heard it since. But that doesn't mean I may have missed it of course.

I had only heard it that one time and it was a job on the post road that had something to do with an electric car battery.
I only come to town every 3-4 months, but I wouldn't doubt they have an E tac channel.
I know MPD has been E for a few years now, which is a shame that the entire area pretty much went E including Orange.
Just as they say "Smoke em if you for em" goes hand in hand with "Encrypt it if you have the funds"
Pretty soon all of New Haven County will be E.

Well, same here as far as monitoring the goings on around here (greater New Haven)...but on three occasions over a three+/- year period I heard them in full E mode, albeit briefly.

Yes Milford PD was E since the early 90's if not before. One of the first in the country believe it or not.
Supposedly the back story on their going "E" was that the techs setting up the UHF system were supposed to have set up 'E" for detectives and special ops only. The story goes (as I was told) that they made an error and set up the entire dept for "E" comms. The brass said...hey! why not, let's go with it. The rest is history. No more 155.13..".KCA 587 to.... 10-30 Post Rd and Old Town"

The Chief in Orange took the position of.."Milford has it, West Haven has it...why not? to thwart the burglars and shoplifters"
I daresay that the in the day, Orange was fertile ground for both...and they got away without using scanners.

I’ve also heard radio distributors were offering the encryption option as an incentive to buy their digital products. With digital systems the addition of encryption is simpler than with analogue.

I remember coming from NYC to see my mother in West haven in the mid 90s and she had a scanner on in the house parked on West Haven PD.
We would be eating dinner listening to the radio calls.
It's a shame that everything is fulltime E. It use to be pretty cool to be able to sit in the house and listen to the action on Campbell ave.
Those days are gone now, Chicks is gone, and beach condos are going up in WH. Sad days.
