The West Jackson Fire and Rescue is desperately seeking help from HAM Radio operators in our area. Our communications with Jackson Center (aka Radio) is very poor in our area. No money is available for improvements within the next two years in the Jackson County Emergency Services budget or the West Jackson Fire Rescue budget.

It has come to my attention that other fire, rescue, and police departments have received help from local HAM operators by sharing space on towers and repeaters. Any and all help will be gratefully appreciated and donations of equipment are tax deductible.

We operate on VHF – High Band between 153.000 MHz and 155.000 MHz

If you have any suggestions or ideas please contact Eddie Gilbert at:

Is the problem talk in or talk out?

BTW, I just called Hoschton, that 500' stick by the ballpark is owned by Pinnacle Towers, aka American Tower. Maybe they'd let a sat rvcr antenna on it for cheap to nothing. The tower is UNloaded, i.e. there aint chit on it.

Both in and out stink, they need more sat recieves in the county, but our EMA director has them turned down the power on them and the repeaters:mad: That stick at the ballfield would work wonders!!

Well, my suggestion is to go to that tower and get the site ID off it, then dig your way painfully thru Pinnacle/American tower until you find someone who can talk intelligently about a relationship between them and Jackson Co EMS.

Who's maintaining the system, Mobile Comm.?

Which of these are you using? And are they the antennas on the Braselton water tank that got repainted lately, and did the problem pccur when they repainted them? They had the antennas off.

Well, here we are, just waiting as usual. I' am not a usual member of the "Jackson-Banks" group, but i will do my best to point out this news to the group. I am sure some will be happy to assist. Hamming is their game, and have been doing it longer than I have. look forward to hearing from their PIO soon!

Sorry for the delay I’ve been down at the training center in Forsyth, Ga. and other things going on around here.

The problem is both us receiving them and them receiving us.
I have found out that the antennas on the water tanks in Braselton are receivers for the Fire Department and a repeater for the Police Department and Sheriff Office.

The input for the Fire receiver is 153.8900.

The output for Police Department repeater is 159.6150
The output for the SO repeater is 155.4900

The distance between the fire antenna and the PD/SO antenna is only about 30 feet.

I feel like the antenna distance is a big problem with them hearing us.

As for us hearing them, the transmit tower for the fire department is located in Jefferson off Hwy 129. By the time the transmission reaches West Jackson the signal isn’t strong enough to penetrate buildings so our pagers do not receive the dispatch.

I hope this answers your questions, if not please feel free to call me anytime at
706-654-0923 or at the fire department 706-654-2500

Thanks
