West Metro Radio Users, stations "reprogramming'

Well, every once in a while I hear a fire station or portable tell dispatch they're going offline for a short time for radio reprogramming.

Is this simply a firmware or software update, or, as a feed provider, shall I stay ahead of the curve and be prepared for frequency reassignments or (?)

Appreciate any insight. If its minor then great!
