Greetings, I am new to this web site, but not new to the monitoring hobby, which I have been into for about 12 years. Although I have not been very active for the last two, I would like to get back into the hobby in earnest.

As a result I have some basic questions, which I will be posting over the course of time. For starters do I understand correctly that it is now possible to monitor the MSP system? What scannners best accomplish this?

I am considering the purchase of a new scanner and would like to have the capability to do this. However these scanners are not cheap is it worth the cost just to have the ability to hear MSP? what other agencies would use this system in my area. are there any future plans for Kent and Ottawa counties to move to a digital system? If so I think that would justify the expense.

That is enough for now, I dont want to run to long. so I will save my other questions for a later date.
Thanks in advance for any help that may be offered
Regards

The current radio list provided by seamusg is correct. There will be others coming out, but none with any definite dates.

As far as what's on there, in Kent and Ottawa counties, besides MSP, there is just DNR, Kent road commission, and Kent County Health Dept. that I know of. In the neighboring counties, it's another story. If your username indicates you are out on Lake Michigan, there are quite a few counties on Western shore of the lower peninsula to listen to. I will list the ones I have monitored on MPSCS, starting with the south: Berrien (most PD's), Van Buren, Oceana, Mason, Manistee (all PD's). Most of the other counties on the shore, supposedly have at least a radio on dispatch, so you may hear occasional comms between them and MSP. Inland, Montcalm, Newaygo and Barry counties are also active with PD activity.

Craig, I might add that I purchased one of the Pro-96 scanners hoping I would be able to hear everything with it including the MPSCS. Unfortuantely, the reception in my area is really bad and I have to move the scanner into certain areas of my home to pick up the digital signals. Upon receiving the signals, if I move my scanner just an inch, I will lose the signal completely

Be sure if you decide to buy one of the aforementioned scanners that you have the ability to return it if your reception of digital signals is unsatisfactory. Hopefully though, you'll be able to pick everything up.
