Hello,

Last night's, or I should say tonight's DX conditions allowed me to pick up the control channel of the West Point 9600 baud TRS, but was only getting about a 70% decode rate. My 2096 was often flashing a voice channel along with a talkgroup, but it just wasn't strong enough to break through.

Does this system need a custom table setup? I was receiving the cc of 140.6625 with a GRE Pro 2096 using Win 96 software. Any further information on this system that folks can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was also hearing this system from Cape Cod, but I could not get UniTrunker or PRO96COM to decode its data. I was receiving lots of traffic in conventional mode with my BCD996T though. Sounds like a busy system.

Edit: Thanks for the link, pro92b. Interesting that there is an indication that Uniden scanners will not track it properly. Given the 5/24/06 status date that obviously includes the BCD396T, and likely the BCD996T. I wonder why this is the case.

It isn't known why Uniden radios do not track this system. West Point is unusual in that the supplier is M/A-COM and not Motorola. Still it is supposed to be P25 compliant.

Only the latest version of Pro96com can decode the system and provide limited information. Multi packet format is used extensively and Pro96com is unable to pick up any radio ID's except through affiliations.

If a PRO-96 is set for 136.000 base and 12.5 kHz step size, it will track the system even though the radio's fixed step size forces all the frequencies to be off by 2.5 kHz. Uniden radios do read the right base and step size but then fail to track the system.

Interesting information. I posted an inquiry in the UniTrunker thread regarding its inability to track this system. A response directed me to the newer version of PRO96COM and also indicated that it will decode the VA STARS system, which is VHF-HI P25 and does not show a sysid. This system doesn't show one either, at least not on my 2096. I wonder if this has something to do with it, and if it's related to the M/A-COM equipment.

There's always a challenge. Thanks again.

The system tracks great on my Pro-96. Using N2FG's info on his site, I was able to program the custom table correctly. Just use 0 as the offset, not the default 380. I am using my 2M beam and am able to get 60-70% on the control channel from Milford, Ct.
