Hello Everyone,
I am trying to figure out frequencies for EMS Helicopters in West Texas as I live and travel in this area frequently. At the moment I am trying to figure out Midland/Odessa then I will move on to the rest of West Texas. When I looked in the "Medevac" section of the Texas database, I noticed AeroCare 5 (Previosuly CareStar) has two separate frequencies in Odessa. 155.9025 AeroCare Dispatch and 155.8950 AeroCare OMC. Can someone explain those to me and what they are used for as I thought MedTrans just used one channel to dispatch. Also, I can not find a FCC License for those two frequencies. I also noticed a frequency for Native Air (151.5800/159.4950), I was unaware a Native Air Helicopter was located in the Midland/Odessa area, Can someone also give some information on that. I know Native Air is part of AirMethods but I'm not sure where their locations are. The only one that I am aware of is in Snyder, TX.

The air methods, native air is in El paso, Hudspeth, 2 or 3 counties in southern new Mexico that border Texas. That pair noted is used as their dispatch I believe in those areas. It uses a dpl.

Oh okay, So is this just to expand their radio coverage for flight following or something? Since they don't have an actual aircraft to dispatch in the Midland/Odessa area.

Some air medical services are operated by Air Methods, PHI, AEL, etc., but use another name and use radio systems licensed to the operator or to local 2-way providers.
That makes sense. However, I have found all of AeroCare's FCC licenses (Under Med-Trans Corporation, FRN: 0017880006) except this one. I don't know why they would do anything different with just this one.

I know the native air in my area has several systems they access in the helicopters.

I have heard them get dispatched by radio which the pilot had a mobile in their base they hang out in at the hospital pad area. I think he also had a pager but I didn't notice it go off unless it was on vibrate but I never heard tones drop.

Just to clarify, your saying that you can hear AeroCare Dispatch on 155.9025 and 155.8950? Also, Im seeing where your in McCamey (I work in that area part time), Do you know what each of these are used for? WQLV603 Med-Trans Corporation 152.9600/159.7050 and WQJK920 Med-Trans Corporation 152.3450/157.6050 I would think for AeroCare6 in Fort Stockton but these are is Upton and Brewster Counties. I'm not sure exactly what San Angelo is doing to be honest. I hear dispatch on both 151.5050 DCS065 and 158.4000 DCS463 which I believe are AirEvac Itinerant frequencies. I know they have WRAJ239 Med-Trans Corpoation 153.0575/158.3175 listed for San Angelo, but I haven't heard anything on those frequencies. Maybe they are using 151.5050 and 158.4000 until radio techs can make it back down and get everything setup/reprogrammed in San Angelo.

When I am unfortunate to visit Big Spring, Texas which is likely the most boring location to monitor radio traffic with the exception of Sloan, Iowa, I hear Medavac key up from time to time. Reportedly, Big Spring is one of the locations listed under Medevac.
