Hi ya'll, been a while now, been moving and I just started a job at Autozone on Beaver St in Jax. I live in Macclenny, so as I go to work everyday, I see two strange, but awesome looking tower fields. They are both along Highway 90 (Beaver St), one at each end of Baldwin. Each tower field has 6 towers in it arranged kinda like a rectangle (3 x 2). If I can upload my two pics, I will. Anyone know what I am refering to? They look like FM braodcast towers to me. Who knows lol.

Being unfamiliar with the area, I don't want to guess, but this will most likely help you figure it out FCC Registered Cell Phone and Antenna Towers in Jacksonville, Florida

AM broadcast stations - they use multiple towers to broadcast a directional signal since the tower itself is the antenna.

West of Baldwin is WJXL-AM 1010, east of Baldwin is WOKV-AM 690.

Just a tip, you may want to look into Tethering Apps.

Being unfamiliar with Blackberry, I can't suggest one, but know they have them. I haven't paid for internet service (Other than on my phone) in two years. (And I can stream movies, Etc.)

Just double check your data limits before going nuts.

@kf4lhp, ahh ok, now why I didn't think of AM, I don't know. Thanks!! That's pretty awesome, those two fields. I grew up there on the westside in the 80's and early 90's, and now I think I remember there being another similar setup off Normandy near the Wal-Mart I think. I could be wrong, it's been a while lol. Also, wasn't WOKV in a different location back then? Maybe Dad was wrong lol. =)

@NO WEF, I have a tethering app installed on my Torch, and I've never tried it. For the next few weeks or so I will be where service is fringe, but I will give it a shot. Thanks for the reminder lol, I had forgotten about it being installed! B)

@NO WEF, Oh, and on top of fringe service, Macclenny and surrounding areas only get GPRS. Gotta go elsewhere to get EDGE :( That might make browsing a nightmare on a pc lol!

WOKV has two sites, the Baldwin site is the AM night site, the day site is a single stick off of 17 right as you enter flemming island. For many years they ran the Flemming Island site both day and night, but they caused too much interference to the Carolinas at night, thus they built a directional site for nite operation. Their pattern from Baldwin is alot more narrow than you would think towards the east. As a side note, WOKV-FM is on one of the 1000' towers at the Hogan Road tower farm.

The station behind walmart off of Normandy was AM 600, and has changed formats several times over the years. Last time i was in Jax, Radio Disney had just dumped it so I am not sure what format/owner it is now.

Hi! That's some cool info to know, thanks! Wasn't WOKV on AM 600 many years ago? I could be mistaken. And I also didn't know about the Hogan Road farm. I'd like to see them 1000' towers =)
