WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- One person was killed after they were hit by a semi-trailer on eastbound Highway 36 near 80th Avenue early Thursday morning.

Initially, a passenger vehicle traveling eastbound on the Boulder Turnpike was involved in a single-car accident. The occupants of that vehicle had gotten out of the car and were in the roadway when they were struck by a tractor-trailer which was also traveling eastbound on the highway.

One person died at the scene.

A second person was transported to St. Anthony Central Hospital with unknown injuries.

Eastbound Highway 36 remained closed for five hours later between Federal and Sheridan while the accident investigation continued. It reopened at about 5:45 a.m.
