Hey hopefully I'm in the right spot. What I'm wanting to do is put up an antenna in my attic and run a couple different cables through out my house to a 2 or 3 rooms and be able to hook in a scanner. I currently don't have a scanner but am looking for one. This will be used to monitor police, fire and ems along with the other channels I have programmed in my FD radio(street dept, utilities hospital etc). Right now the only frequency that is digital is the local PD but they have a repeater that is still analog that I have programmed in that I listen to.

Right now I can pick up depts with in about a 60 mile radius of home on my Kenwood TK 2170 and am hoping that an antenna in my attic will be able to match that if not more.

So the million dollar question is what all do I need to be able to accomplish this as far and an antenna, cable, splitters and anything else.

Thanks

A great deal depends on exactly where you are, frequency, output power of the transmitter, and how high your attic is above any surrounding objects, along with many other factors.

There are 10 states that have a 'Henry County', according to Wikipedia - if you're in Indiana, then it might be possible on some, but certainly not all, frequencies.

Once we have that information, then folks can jump in here and make an informed recommendation. Another question might be are you looking for a unit you can use in your home/car, or a handheld model?

Sorry I forgot to add that info. I am in S.E. Iowa with most frequencies being 155.xxx or 154.xxx. I am looking just to have a base model that will sit on an end table or something like that. The only thing around the house is a couple trees.

I use the RadioShack 25-1.3 mgz groundplane =$25.00, and RG6Ulowloss coax mounted in the attic and they work fantastic in a small area mounted on a cut off wooden broom handle....Receives the ILL-Digital Starcom great on 700/800 here in the Chicago area along with VHF-UHF....
