Just got a new Pro96 and am trying to get it to work on the South Dakota TRS. I have it programed with the information from here at RR.

I can watch the radio track the system (I see the voice channel information, talkgroup ID, etc ), but I hear nothing! Yes I know, check to see if the radio is in closed or open mode,it's in open mode. What am, I missing.

Since this is a VHF trunking system you have to program the base/offset. The base/offset is found in the database, and you can refer to the manual to see how it's done.

Once this is done, make sure you have the Func3 settings programmed. While scanning, hit PGM+TRUNK to get you into the ID bank. Once you are there hit FUNC+3 and use the [up and down] arrows until the bottom of the screen says table. Once this is done the system should work.

Do you have the table set correctly?

Custom Frequency Table
1=Base: 155.4150 Offset: 380 Step: 15.0
2=Base: 157.2000 Offset: 436 Step: 12.5
3=Base: 157.4700 Offset: 454 Step: 15.0

a) You will need Win96 and a cable to set all three as multi-table.
or
b) If you know which of the three you are close to, you can set that table using the key pad>PGM>TRUNK>FUNC+2, Press ENTER after each setting. After pressing ENTER after Step setting, press FUNC+3 and use the up button until Multi-Table appears on line 4, then press ENTER then SCAN.

All, the radio tracks properly, it's just that I have no audio out of the radio when it stops. At first I thought that I had a problem with the radio speaker, but it will work fine when I operate in the conventual mode.

This sounds pretty bizzare. I use a Pro-96 and it works great on the system. Which tower/site are you closest to? Oh, one thing, there is something about this system which makes some ID's show up which are phantoms. It has got to be some status symbol being sent out by the CC which the Pro-96 doesn't quite understand. The radio moves to a frequency, which is not really a voice frequency, shows a talk-group, which is not an active TG on the system, and when there is no signal (which of course there never is) it returns to the CC. This will repeat constantly until you lock out that phantom TG and hence you mostly miss the real calls.

On mine, I have the following TG's locked out with an alpha tag of "Ignore":
10688, 10768, 10800, 25024, 25104, 25136, 25152, & 25184

These are the ones that have popped up and down I-29 (mostly in the north.)

loumaag, I mostly work the Vermillion site, I have a 789D at the shop that works just fine on the Vermillion, Turkey Ridge, and Sioux Falls sites. I got the 96 so that I could use it at home for SD and also be able to take it with me when I go down to the Omaha/Douglas county area.

I have done a complete reset and dump of the radio, and still the same problem. I am begining to think that I may have to send the scanner back.
