Like subject say "What are the software decoders with GPS tracking/mapping."

What software decoders are capable of decoding GPS data. I know DSD+ does it on some systems that have the data present (but not all). What other decoders have GPS data decoding. I know the original OP25 page says this;

"Locate and track the locations of P25 mobile stations. No need to implement this as there are plenty of other solutions out there already that are quite good."

When they say "plenty of other solutions" what are they?

TIA JETS

So nobody in the forum seen/used a GPS tracking capable decoder. The way the OP25 guys make it sound there are many.

Just bumping this... anybody know of GPS decoders usable with an RTL? Does the boatbods OP25 do it?

No.

GPS in a P25 world is going to be carried in data packets not straight signaling. Two things to think about:
1. usually the gps position is being received by a mobile unit and is therefore transmitted on the uplink to the base station, so unless you can monitor that side of the data exchange you don't have anything to decode.

2. since position is not part of the P25 spec it is going to be handled by proprietary messaging (UDP/TCP over an IP datalink) and may or may not be encrypted.

I do know that it is possible to extract the position information from DMR LRRP. Some of the code to capture and reassemble the data fragments is included in op25, but it is incomplete.

Boatbod,

Thanks for your response. I was actually thinking of a feature that I would like see added to a software decoder. I would like to see a "Shift" feature where you can specify the band shift for the input frequency on a given band. Like UHF +5 MHZ, 800MHz -45MHz, 700 MHz +30 MHz. That would be a neat feature.

But about GPS data when I use Unitrunker I always see "data" decodes so I thought the GPS data got repeated out the output. Maybe worth looking at for some systems. Just thinking here :)
