I don't recall at the moment what the absolute maximum number of talkgroups is for say a Motorola XTS5000 or similar radios on the ARMER system. What end user(s) would likely have the greatest number programmed in their radios? Would it be Minnesota State Patrol, BCA, HSEM, or somebody else? With troopers and others having statewide responsibility, they would seem like a likely candidate. Think about it, if you work here in the metro, you might want the ability to scan many different talkgroups for agencies that you might work with. If you are a 4460 beat, you might want Saint Paul Police, Ramsey County, etc. Anyway, do you think any users have maxed out their memory capacity yet? Maybe the SYS TECHS?

Also, on a related note, I seem to recall that say the XTS5000 could only scan 15 or 16 talkgroups at once. Does anybody happen to know if that has increased or if other manufacturers have a higher scan capacity?

This idea defeats the very purpose of the radio system. The goal is to have your own talkgroups, your local interop talkgroups, your regional interop talkgroups and your statewide interop talkgroups.

But the biggest variety is in some of the smaller state agencies such as the PCA or Fire Marshall. Mn/DOT Radio Tech radios have seen just about every talkgroup on the system, but they are pushing new codeplugs onto their radios all the time.

The state patrol and other agencies usually use the inter op talk groups or the dispatcher sets up a patch rather than going on to a specific agencies talk group directly.

State can usually get on most of the agencies on ARMER. A few weeks ago there was a accident at Costco in Eden Prairie. There was a trooper parked at the HCMC garage on Technology Drive just down the road, heard the call and responded on the Eden Prairie main to take care of it. So their mobiles are probably loaded with various talkgroups.
