FRS hits are big at special events and malls.

it's also cool to see someone get pulled over on the interstate and hear the unit call in the traffic stop on the input frequency -- works quite well for that.

What about wireless mics and such? Has anyone had any success with that?

I like setting on one channel at an emergency (i.e. holding on the local fire freq) and turning on close-call to hear the other agencies involved (police / EMS / utilities / etc) without having to pick particular banks / freqs to scan.

Hello,

Works well while mobile. Lots of 2 meter and 70cm hits, CAD/AVL, VHF/UHF Business Band. You can drive by an industrial or manufacturing area and pick up all kinds of stuff. The possibilities are endless! :D

can you lock out the hits it gets like the ham stuff? Thats the last thing I want to hear.....

Hello,

You can select the band Close Call will hit on. You can deactivate the UHF Band, but it would take out the whole band. You can lock out 2 meter and 70cm hits, and it won't hit on them again, instead of the whole band.

I drove through DFW and picked up ground control. In Denton there is what seems to be a conventional freq that used for staffing the PD, when someone goes off duty you hear them talk to dispatch then cc will pick up a 155 freq and you hear the staffing change being called out.

I picked up my local Sheriff's main dispatch channel.

May not sound like much but I was just under 4 miles from there tower.

Conditions:
Transmitter is on a 30 story building
60 watts I think
middle of the night (some would say early morning) when the RF background is lower.
I was inside my house on the ground level.
Stock antenna

CC would not hit on every transmission but it has done it alot (enough to impress me).

Drove to Shreveport yesterday...went to the Hollywood Casino for some R&R. (Had gas money for the drive back, so I consider it a win.)

On the way from DFW to the casino, I got these hits along the way (external UHF mag mount):

Code:
483.9875
467.5625
155.8500
463.2750
452.6250
452.2250
403.2125
 26.9650
452.2625
451.6750
152.3000
At the casino, I put the scanner into CC AutoStore for several hours and recorded these hits:
Code:
449.6375	451.1500	452.0125	452.5500
449.6750	451.1625	452.0250	452.6000
449.7125	451.2250	452.0500	452.6375
449.7750	451.3000	452.0625	452.7000
449.8500	451.4125	452.0750	452.8500
449.9500	451.4500	452.0875	452.9750
450.0250	451.4625	452.1000	453.0000
450.1125	451.5000	452.1500	456.8625
450.4500	451.7125	452.2125	457.2500
450.6000	451.7500	452.2500	457.5000
450.6500	451.7625	452.3125	457.8500
450.8000	451.8375	452.3500	458.0000
			462.5625
			466.9750

And on the drive back, got these additional CC hits:
Code:
463.3250
 27.2450
154.7450
461.4000
155.8500
 27.2250
154.7550
 27.1850

I didn't spend a lot of time listening (didn't even attempt while inside the Casino), but was able to hear many of the in-casino hits from the parking garage and as I drove away.

Hi All,

I need some clarification on how to use the CLose Call feature with my 246T. I had seen some people saying that the best way to set the sql was to place it in the 6 or 9 o'clock position. What exactly does that mean? Will you hear hiss in this (these) position(s) if you weren't in CC mode? Apparently the setting of the sql is paramount when using CC. The reason I'm concerned about this is because I live on a Mil base and am not getting anything on CCall except for the occasional hit on the local NOAA WX freq (162.55)...... Thanks

I've had great success setting the squelch where it always sits - near the threshold. (the same place you set it when scanning)

Thanks for the reply Voyager! Another quick question though... Are you using a rubber duck, rod, or external antenna of some sort? Also, is your environment urban or rural?

My environment is rural (Cape Cod) but I live on a Mil Base and know that there are numerous systems active in my area. When driving I don't get any hits except for the random 162.55 (which I have blocked out). In the house I get nothing on CCall. Some poeple are saying that the Pro-83 manual says that the sql should be in a certain position for optimum Signal Stalker (CCall) operation (I'll check that ref out later today). Anyways, thanks for the help....

Anybody know if they will make a scanner with this feature in the form of a base/mobile? I am looking to get another scanner, but don't want an HH.
