What brand (decodes) DMR, NXDN, and other digital modes (besides P25) the best?

I was wondering because I'm planning to get the BCD996P2 and I want to know which scanner brand receives all digital modes (except P25) the clearest.

Edit: I meant decode.

In Michigan, I'd recommend Uniden, SDS100 hand-held, or SDS200 mobile/desktop. You need to buy upgrades for NXDN & DMR.

The BCD996P2 will work but depending on many factors you might encounter distortion caused by Simulcast which the MPSCS uses.

You got my vote on 996 and agreed that antenna is far more important than clearest decode (yes off course that's important)
I'm sure you know this allready but nxdn +dmr you pay extra for
I'm very happy with my 996P2 + 996XT etc

iMONITOR, what do you think about a BCD436HP for Michigan? Kind of the same opinion as you have about the 996?
This may sound silly, but I just like the look of it. I suppose that's shouldn't be a factor in deciding.
Thanks

It may look nice but not designed to decode simulcast signals. So now location will play into this. If you live really close to a site, while other sites are NOT close it MAY work. Ultimately with simulcast systems it will be lots of trial and error. However none of that matters if you go with a G4, SDSx00 or BK KNG2-P800 radio. If your wanting to "scan" more than 16 channels at a time that will eliminate the KNG2 radio.

No extras to buy with the Bluetail Technologies P25RXII.. It does all digital modes in use around the US

The BCD996P2, BCD436HP, BCD536HP, all work for me very well at my home in Macomb Township, MI (Macomb County). I bought my SDS200's for other features, mostly the display. I've taken a 436 on the road in my vehicle and it does not work perfect while in motion. Most areas I stop in it still works fine. Buy one from a reputable dealer that has a fair return policy and try for yourself. Make sure you don't bend or tear up the packaging. It should be in resalable condition when you return it.

Michigan P25 simulcast is exactly what the Uniden SDS series is designed to decode. Study up on simulcast and why you could have simulcast problems and never know it using any scanner/radio not designed to receive simulcast.

I'm not sure if any of you "read" the OP's #1 post, he said "besides P25" and he never said simulcast. Also mentioned is which "brand" is best (i.e. Uniden, Whistler, etc.).

Golay asked a question, a bifurcation is typical of forum threads.

Your post is probably more off topic, not even radio related.

Uniden is the only brand making new models of scanners these days. Whistler has some old products that are still listed for sale. The OP doesn't have much of a choice on brand.

The O.P. resides in Plainwell, Michigan where public safety is on MPSCS P25 Phase 1 Simulcast.

This has become a bit off topic, I just wanted to know what brand your think that made or still makes scanners, decodes MOTOTRBO/DMR, NXDN, and any other digital voice modes better than all of them. I just wanted your guys opinion. I should put up a poll next time.

A poll with just uniden, why bother?

If you really want the best radios at decoding digital protocols moving on to subscriber rigs is the way to go.

Motorola for DMR, P25.

Kenwood for NXDN.

There are others, but those two are OEM. Break out your wallet for new radios, lots of used gear out there.

You'll find them on eBay and in the for sale forum.
