• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a hand-held control head and a vehicular adapter for Jaguar 700P/7100 radios.

I need a cable that interfaces the two together.

I am presuming this is possible.

What's the part number of the cable I need, and does anyone have a spare?

I have a good number of assorted Orion cables available as possible trade.

You can make the cable your self it is easy. The pin out on the hand held controller is the same as on the regular orion control head. On the MRK Yahoo group there is a diagram in the manual in the files section to make the cable. You will also need to set the dip switches on the bottom of the charger witch is located behind the small plastic cover. Dip switch settings are also in the manual. I have made several of these units using the charger for the P7100 and a hand held control head in to Pelican cases for the FHP a couple of years ago. Second thought see attached PDF file.

never mind the file is to large for this forum to upload. Just see the one on the Mrk Yahoo group.

What's the exact name of the group, please? I didn't find it as MRK or MrK.

I did find an Orion group, though.

Thanks,

Elroy

The group name is "M-RK"

I suppose I could make that cable. But frankly I'd rather buy the factory cable if it's not too expensive. I don't love building cables and it's easier to order one and it shows up on your doorstep a few days later by magic.

However...I expect it will be too expensive for what it is so I'd better warm up the soldering
iron and crimping tool!

I identified the specific cable I need. The cost is reasonable to my way of thinking, so I just ordered a new one. No hassles and no worries. It's under warranty. I can't say that about a cable I'd build myself, though I do build a good cable.

Yup, it's supported by the factory, and you are correct......

It'd be 'the same' as using a W7/O7 control head off of an Astro Saber/XTS AVA, but of course /\/\ doesn't have that... ;)
