Yesterday I asked questions about Yellowstone frequencies..Got some good help....I guess I should have started at the beginning. I know nothing about scaners but my wife and I do a lot of wildlife photography and want something we can use in Yellowstone so we can listen to conversations about wolf and bear sightings. How much or how little do we have to spend to get a decent scanner...There are many makes and models...Is it like Ford and Chevy...One's as good or bad as the other? If anyone has any specific recommendations about brands and models I would appreciate hearing about them. Sorry for the long ramble...:)

Im sorry i can't help you out with the Frequencies, . But if you don't need a digital scanner i'd suggest that you buy a decent scanner like a BC 246T, it's about $220. I just feel that after you use it at yellowstone you'll find more and more uses for it. if you buy a real low end scanner you'll always wish you spent the extra money. Enjoy your trip, and watch out for the bears. Have fun.

If you're sure you want to use it ONLY in Yellowstone to listen to the Park Service, I'd suggest checking for a used handheld scanner that will cover the 160-170MHz frequency range used in Yellowstone (according to the database here). Pretty much any old scanner will do for this specific purpose.

Even if, as the other responder suggested, you decide it's pretty cool and something you want to get into more, the money for the used scanner will be well spent. With trunking systems being so common and digital coverage becoming more and more necessary, a simple, conventional scanner that will cover fewer than 20 frequencies should be dirt cheap. There are dozens on ebay. You might also check Craig's list. Or maybe somebody here will offer you something adequate for a good price.

As I said in your other post, any scanner ($70-150) will be fine. All brands will be equal for the range you want, but here are a few of suggestions:
http://www.unidendirect.com/itemdetail.cfm?item=B-BC95XLT $99
http://www.unidendirect.com/itemdetail.cfm?item=B-BC92XLT $69.99
http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...ers&x=16&s=A-StorePrice-RSK&parentPage=family $79

The Unidens tend to be smaller, so easier to stow. That is about the only difference I think you might care about. As mentioned, you can do much better on Ebay:http://electronics.search.ebay.com/scanners_20-150-Channel_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQsacatZ149990
