What do you as the radio community think of AI's response to my inquiries?

Link:

Has the AI "parsed" it's search results accurate enough or is it just spitting out random info?

A resonant ( proper length ) antenna would work best, even for RX. One could use a random wire, but if you are able to use at least a 45’ wire with a 9:1 balun you may enjoy the results.

One part where AI is lacking, or conforming/twisting the answer to suit your needs is about the short length of wire. Yes, it will reduce RFI, but it also reduces the signals you want to monitor on 80 meters. The AI result notes it will lower AM broadcast interference, which is true, but it will reduce the signals you want. The one thing not mentioned is the use of an AM broadcast filter. One can then enjoy a target band like 80 meters and let the filter reduce the AM broadcast RFI. ( RFI = Radio Frequency Interference ). Also, a choke balun on the coax before it enters your home may help. I am fine without one at that spot, but others see improvement. An RF choke on the coax at the antenna feedpoint is what helps me the most.

* Always remember that AI is working to give you the result you want, but it may never be the best result.

I recommend you experiment.

I kept asking it about loop antennas with your setup, and it was pretty accurate with the info. It finished up with the same question I would ask: "Do you have room on the ground outside for a 15' x 15' square?"😆

Kinda weird for me, as it seemed "familiar" and "enthusiastic". Being Google, it knows I like Loop on Ground antennas, and was  very happy to discuss them. Feels like it's going to start handing out attaboys.

All I need to do is receive signals. Not really maximize signal strength as much as it is about SNR. The thing you hear. The information in that signal. If a signal is only -90dbm and the noise floor is at -100dbm there is 10dbm SNR. My 18ft weird antenna with 9:1 receives signals all the way down to MW band. No huge results. Just enough of a result to be usable. That is all that matters.

Apartment living doesn't give room for 15' x 15' setups. My experimentation has been exhausted and this is the only thing that works next to my K180-WLA loop. @vagrant

AI has a gist of it. I feel like it is pulling straws on some things. It uses search results to form a answer.

You can have the best commercial shortwave radio available ( Icom R-8600 ) but if your antenna is lacking you will miss out on the max capability of the radio. There are many different ways to maximize your antenna. Unfortunately I live in an HOA, no external antennas that can be seen from the street. I had my Diamond Discone mounted on my garage roof first floor, they made me take it down, had it up for 2 years an no one complained, the HOA’s were just being a$$holes. I had to improvise so I mounted it in my attic ( 2 story house ), it was higher up in the attic and as we all know radio waves go right through wood. After doing that my reception was better. My satisfaction was beating the HOA.

AI doesn't replace your own reasoning or thinking skills.
No it doesn't, but it seems every one is giving AI Far too much credit and responsibility, and believes that AI can solve all our deep seated issues, by developing apps to use AI to do Mathematics or Engineering tasks for us, instead of Using the damn brains we were Born with !

I just started using ChatGPT and ran some antenna ideas for some homebrews. Takes all the work out of calculations, and presented some good ideas for configuration.

I guess if you want to experiment with homebrew, reinvent the wheel, it helps, but a good dipole, end fed Hertz, a Butterfly, or T3FD properly constructed and installed is hard to beat

Good inverted V are hard to beat, but I am not reinventing anything. Just letting it do the leg work. Pun intended. Easy to play around with various combinations of loaded elements and lengths that will tune over several bands with an antenna tuner.

Also multi-element wideband dipoles for VHF/ UHF. Discones are popular, but have a not very good pattern.
