Just wondering .. what do you set your squelch at ?

I am interested in mostly the 1095, but in the interest of the community, any Whistler scanner is acceptable in this conversation.

Me .. I set my 1095 scanner at 8 as it does not scan well at anything less.

WS 1080 Squelch

I only have a WS 1080 In Las Vegas, Nevada and have a setting at approximately 10:00. This setting works for both the P 25 Phase l and ll systems and the 800 frequency system with analog.

The reason I am asking .. and why I will not buy another Whistler scanner for some time, is their scanners have good interfaces, but lacking in the performance department.

Their front ends are bad .... a GRE carry over and the squelch circuit on the 1095 is just bad. It will not receive weak signals .. cause you have to turn the squelch up so high and in combination with the front end .. just buy a Uniden.

You must remember up until several months ago, I hated Unidens. But I love my HP1 now as it stops on signals that my 1095 is totally deaf to. Yes, exactly the same antenna.

Now .. I realized how bad the 1095 is, and lets face it the 1098 is going to be exactly the same performance wise.

Who cares about the buttons if the scanner will not stop when there is anything but pretty strong signals. Then if your front end overloads .. all bets are off.

Sure if you have only strong signals you MAY be ok .. but really I am not going to chance it going forward until Whistler fixes their issues.

It is all about making informed decisions at this point .. as the 1095 is not going anywhere. Way too much money invested and no way to sell it without taking a complete bath.

I have mine completely turned to the left. This setting seems to work best for my local area which is digital. Now I have to use a directional anteena to avoid simulcast distortion . But over all I'm happy with my 1080.

What I do for fine tuning, is to activate the weather function with the squelch wide open. I then move to from the broadcasting frequency to one that is open, and fine tune the knob until the squelch closes back on the home weather broadcast. I then return to trunked scanning.
