What does NMO stand for when discussing antennas?

I searched the wiki but had no luck, can anyone tell me what an NMO antenna is & what NMO stands for?

NMO=New Motorola as MO=(old) Motorola The NMO standard came out around 1970.

It also was/is trademarked by Motorola, other antenna manufacturers often use the term "standard 1-1/8" mount" like the term get me a kleenex, or a bandaid, we all know what is being said but the words are trademarked by their respective companies, one more I see a lot of "I am using my HT to talk to you" HT or Handie Talkie is also trademarked by our friends at Motorola, FWIW.
