• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

HI,

TRUNKING MEANS THAT IN A RADIO CONVERSATION, THE CONVERSATION MAY START ON ONE FREQUENCY, AND SHIFT TO OTHERS AS THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES. DIGITAL TRUNKING IS SIMPLY TRUNKING, BUT WITH DIGITAL MODULATION (i.e DIGITAL VOICE). yOU NEED A DIGITAL SCANNER TO MONITOR DIGITAL TRUNKING. CITIES USE TRUNKING BECAUSE IT IS A LOT MORE EFFICIENT. ALL CITY SERVICES CAN SHARE 1 SET OF FREQUENCIES. ALL THE USER NEEDS TO DO IS SELECT A "TALKGROUP".

GET ALL THAT?

Trunking comes from teh concept of using channels ina radio system the way "trunk lines" are used in a telephone system.
They are sharred on an as needed bases rather thn aassigned to a particular user.

There are some good write-ups done by the manufacturers, but I don't have one handy.

Well, I dont know .. tell you what I will call some friends and use an internet search engine and repost the SAME EXACT information that is always reposted everytime.

sheesh.

Well, dispite Crayon's rant, he is a pretty nice guy, but he does have a point.

In any case welcome to the boards. If you will check out the home page you will see links running down the left side, under the heading Online Content you will find a link to Trunking Information which will give you a nice overview of Trunking and will lead to lots of good information.

Ouch, I just realized this part of your post.

Would that be Fairfax County, VA? If so and the "P250" mention is really a BC250D I hope that you ordered the digital card for it. It appears the system is mixed mode APCO-P25 digital with a 3.6 kbs control channel.

From the general tone of this thread, it is obvious that we have someone who needs to sharpen his crayon - especially the yellow one. It's kinda hard to write with a dull point and make any sense. :?
