Hi Everybody,

I'm primarily a mobile listener, using a 9" whip in the car to feed two TRX-1's.
But I'm working on a home setup (much of which would be portable) centering around a Stridsberg 8-way antenna coupler, and various power accessories for the TRX-1's, PSR-500's, AirSpy and Laptop that would be combined together with some additional elevation.
I feel like I need a little more amplification, but at home I'm next door to a State Police tower with a VHF NWS station and a VHF P25 control channel. So sometimes I actually get better reception with the attenuator. If course, I don't really know if the VHF stuff is really my problem or if all that cellular/broadband energy is more the problem.

So the more specific question is this: Could I benefit from a consumer TV preamp that also has LTE filtering? There are a number of products that amplify 25-1000 MHz, but I'm thinking that I need to cut off more around 500 MHz to avoid all the 700/800 stuff that's nearby as well.

Thoughts?

I'd recommend against a pre-amp if you're already getting overload on the front end. Proper filtering added with a good antenna will do more for you at first. You can get filters made to block a specific frequency once you determine exactly what you need.

You can try one of the consumer LTE TV filters, but I'd imagine, depending on your distance from the tower, that the VHF is hitting you pretty hard.
