Just about any scanner that covers 225 - 400 MHz will do, as long as it can receive this range in AM. Having AM in this range is important, because MOST Mil Air transmissions are AM. One exception are Mil Satellites, which are NFM.

I've received Mil Air on my BC3000xlt and my Yaesu VR-500 (both cover 225-400 AM) with just a whip.

The following H/H scanners that I have owned can receive Mil-Air (with my comments added)

- Yupiteru MVT-7100 (Very good reception) Check on Ebay for this one...
- BC250D/296D (Decent Reception)
- Pro-96 (Decent Reception with WIN96 Software)
- Icom R-5 (Decent Reception)
- Icom R-2 (Good Reception)
- AOR8200II (Very good Reception) But difficult to operate
- Sony ICF-SC1PC Wavehawk (Very Good Reception) Check Ebay....
- THere are many others, but it depends on cash and needs of course. If you want a dedicated UHF Mil-Air receiver then the 7100 is the best (IMHO) you can get. If you also want to monitor digital or analog public safety then you will need one of the BC's or Pro's.

Hope that helped :D

I think the old Radio Shack Pro 43 is a good one. I own one works great on mil-air band can be found on ebay for pretty cheap. You could always hold out for the Pro 97 from Radio Shack it will be out soon it does mil air. If you don't need digital these two should work good. I have found that the scanners if they come out with the frequencies ranges in them are more sensitive in the range than when you unlock them like you do on the Pro 95 and 96.

I second Fireant's suggestion on the PRO-43. It was my first scanner that picked up Milair and it worked great. It's first big trip was to Destin with me and with nearby Eglin AFB across the bay it was chirping up a storm. It's also great for airshow monitoring. Then like a dummy i sold it to pay for my BC-296 (which picks up Milair too). But, because of it's small size it is more suitable for the airshow circuit. Of course both radios will travel now. But i recent aquired one again from ebay at a fairly good price. So that would be a good choice. Sorry for the esay but i just think it's a great radio.

Totally forgot about the Pro-43, and yes, I agree that it was a very good mil-air receiver. Ebay is the way :D
