What is found in the 50-80Mhz range???

Hey just got my pro-43 in the mail, it has some mods done to it already, one of the mods is it opened the 50-80Mhz bands. What could be found on these freq's? Anything worthy listening to?

Almost. But not quite correct (at least not in the USA)

50-54 MHz 6M Ham band
54-60 MHz TV CH 2 (Audio carrier 59.75 MHz)
60-66 MHz TV CH 3 (Audio carrier 65.75 MHz)
66-72 MHz TV CH 4 (Audio carrier 71.75 MHz)
72-76 MHz Mid-Band utility frequencies (mostly industrial)
76-82 MHz TV CH 5 (Audio carrier 81.75 MHz)
82-88 MHz TV CH 6 (Audio carrier 87.75 MHz)

50-80MHz

That spectrum is also used by US military combat net radios, though these days, it's mostly spread spectrum (frequency-hopping). The full range of what they call the "Fox-Mike" band is 30-87.975MHz. Do a Google search on SINCGARS & MSE for more info.

There are also pagers, some two-way voice stuff, telemetry links, repeater/remote receiver site links, etc. in that range, plus FAA Instrument Landing System beacons on 75.0MHz.

RC Cars are in the 76Mhz area, and RC Aircraft are at 72Mhz

Hi all,

Don't forget in ITU Region 1 the 4M Amateur band replaces our commercial band in the 70mHz range. Just in case you're traveling in Europe but watch the laws, some countries prohibit monitoring altogether but you CAN listen to the Amateur bands and shortwave.

BTW, a broadcast engineer and ham I know once bragged about operating "my 10KW 3M station", guess what he was talking about. (;->)

Not exactly. The 4m amateur band only extends from 70.0 - 70.5 MHz.
There are only 7 countries that have authorized it for use and some of them
don't even allow use of the entire band.

10kw FM? What station? I operated a few FM stations in 2-land over the years.
