I am thinking of upgrading from my pro93 so that I can once again pickup the RCMP on their new digital signal in Saskatchewan.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a scanner for use in Saskatchewan specifically around Regina? I have been looking at the Radio Shack Pro 96/2096 and the Uniden BCD396T/BCD996T.

I was also wondering if the rebanding situation in the States will be copied in Canada also.

Thanks in advance.

I just got the PSR500 It does project 25 and 700mhz trunking. I don't know what system your on over there. I imagine lots of it is encrypted just like here.

Some of the 9600 baud digital trunk trackers are not decoding the new RCMP VHF M/A-Com P25 digital system control channel. That may be an issue with the band plan used in the trunk tracker. The new PSR500 may or may not do the job, no one has tried it yet. A 396 did not trunk track the new RCMP system, but I'm hoping we can try again.

Now, standard digital scanners will decode the digital voice in conventional mode, but will not follow talkgroups on the new RCMP system.

As for rebanding, I think you mean 800 MHz band rebanding where all of the 800 MHz licencees are being moved around. We don't have the same interference problems they do in the US, so that rebanding likely will not happen at all.

If you mean the new 700 MHz band, that band is being opened in Canada. The Public Safety portion is available now, but the band plan for the PS channels will likely change to match the changes made in the US. The rest of the 700 MHz band (being auctioned now in the US) will open up later.
