Sentinel: What is the best way to update my current programmed systems without altering anything else?

Based on my location, I follow the Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) system. Since there are constantly updates, how can I update ONLY the updated frequencies into my currently programmed systems, sites and groups without altering anything else? What I have been doing to update is the following:

1) Importing from RR Trunked the systems, sites and groups
2) Copy/pasting it into my current programming
3) Then just moving the groups into the appropriate ones

The screenshot below is to hopefully help make things clearer. The green circled systems and groups are what I currently have programmed with their quick keys. The orange circled is what I had copy/pasted into here after importing the latest updates from RR. So as an example from point #3 above, I would just drag and drop anything WayneCnty92Detro into [QK7]WayneCounty.

I'm not sure if there is a much more efficient way of doing this. If anyone has any pointers, please let me know! Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'll second the suggestion to use Proscan as it allows you to better tweak your favorites lists. If you only want to update one site on a huge system it'll let you do that without the need to have to append every site/dept/talkgroup and remove the ones you don't need. FYI this thread's prefix (Sentinel) is misleading since you're working with Freescan. Welcome to the RR forums!

Welcome to the forums!
I use Sentinel, and the way you described is pretty much the way I do it.

I'll append the department &/or talkgroups I need to update into the appropriate Favorites List. Next, I copy/paste the updated info into the appropriate system(s). I also check the sites (since they all append automatically) for any frequency changes. Then I delete the appended MPSCS. (I change the system names when I build a Favorites List, so when I append the MPSCS it shows up as a separate system in the FL.)

As far as I know, the 325P2 does not use Sentinel, just the x36HP and SDS series for the green shield Sentinel, and the two HomePatrol scanners for the orange shield Sentinel. Your best bet, as others stated, is ProScan.

ProScan's RRDB Differences is 100% the way to go. You just have to make sure that you initially programmed the system, by importing it using ProScan and not created it by hand. I believe it works if you initially programmed the system using Sentinel, too.

Thanks all! Trying ProScan now and it definitely looks more powerful and capable than FreeScan.
Not only more powerful. The developer for Freescan stopped updating the software years ago. The developer of Proscan is a constant presence on the forums. With a timely response to questions about the software. $50 for the registered version, is a 'drop in the bucket'. Considering all the available support.

Thanks all. I’ve officially switched to ProScan and loving it. Also, apologies for having the wrong prefix for this thread (newbie mistake). I can’t seem to find a way to change it to make this more relevant and helpful to others in the future so if any admins can change it, would greatly appreciate it!

Only more efficient way I know of is to use ProScan to program (will need to start over from scratch) and use the “detect changes” feature along with a RR premium subscription.
I've looked and can't find an easy way (sure I missed it somewhere) but how do I connect my SDS100 with Proscan to RRDB and check for differences?

I know I've seen the RRDB Differences and I would go through them but how/when does this check begin, or how do I initiate it?

The manual shows this but for some reason, right clicking never brings up this dialogue box.

I've even checked Youtube so if there is a Youtube video that shows this process.....I'll take that too!

Thanks for any help!!

Did you create the FL by using ProScan import from RR feature? Unless something has recently changed in ProScan, this is the only way the “differences” button will show up next to system in FL editor.

Yes....everything imported with ProScan!

You also mention "differences" button.....The only thing I see is the RRDB Differences tab next to System Name

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Imported with Proscan is not the same as reading the scanner as some think.

The favorites lists need to be created by using Proscan to connect to the Radio Reference database, selecting the system, and importing it that way.

When imported correctly, RRDB Differences will appear next to the system like shown here.
