    We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

    If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Hello to all,

I was scanning around for fun this evening and ran across some data transmissions on 409.800 here in the Columbus area. Does anybody know what this might be used for? I'm not sure even what this part of the band is allocated for.

Wow, I plugged that freq into my PRO-2055 with the volume up loud, and boy is that an annoying sound! :) I would think it would be impossible to find out who uses it, since there is no voice transmission. I don't think the FCC provides listings for data frequencies (correct me if I'm wrong). I always thought that the 400-410 MHz band was for Federal or Military use...

I Commonly hear it near most airports (Large and Small)

FAA and NWS have various modes in use for Wind Shear and other observations

I've heard this on 408.0000, 408.8250, 409.1750, 409.5500, 409.5750, 409.8000, 409.8250, 409.8500, 410.0000, 410.3000, 410.9500, 412.5375, 412.7750, 413.0625, 413.1125, 413.6000, 414.0125, 415.000, 415.0375, 416.8750, 419.0250 over the years
