What is the difference between open mode and closed?

I am wondering what the difference between open mode and closed mode on my pro-96? What would happen if I was to use closed mode on a MO system vs open mode?Sorry guys, just another newb question.I noticed on 1 bank that a friend helped me program in it says "closed" mode.What if I changed that bank to "open"? Thank you all in advance

Open mode scans all not locked out talkgroups.

Closed mode only scans programmed not locked out talkgroups.

When you program talkgroups into your scanner, you can either scan them in open mode, which will scan all the ones you prgrammed AND ones you have not. This is a very good way to find new unid talkgroups.

However, If you only want to hear the talkgroups you have programmed into your scanner, then set the bank to Closed and it will scan ONLY talkgroups you have programmed.

In both open and closed mode if the talkgroup is locked out the pro-96 will ignore it.

When you program a trunked system into your scanner you program the frequencies along with the talk groups you want to listen to. If you have the scanner in the closed mode it will only scan and receive the talk groups you have programmed in. In the open mode it will scan and receive ALL active talk groups in the system.

Say, for example, I program my local town's trunked system. I may only want to listen to the police, fire & ems, so I would only program those talk groups. In the closed mode that's all I will hear. But in the open mode, I would also hear all of the other agencies talk groups like the Road Dept, Municipal Utilities Authority, Senior Citizen Transportation Buses, Code Enforcement, etc. even though I don't have them programmed into my scanner.

Given all of the above, why does my Pro95 show me receiving talk groups I have not programmed when I have selected closed mode in the Win95 software? Is there another selection I need to click in that software or does it require a panel input on the scanner?

Mode shows closed with a minus sign (-MO). The interesting thing is the agency I am interested in, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, shares the trunking system with the Department of Corrections. I receive all OHP talk groups but none of the DOC. I have programmed to just receive certain groups in the OHP but also get Radio, Governor's Security, and Capitol Patrol.

Do a complete reprogram job.... See if that helps. Or try a reset.

Not real familuar with the 95, but being its a GRE, those are "the usual suspects" to check out first.

Also recheck to make SURE you ONLY loaded the TG's you want, then go closed mode....
