Are you a true-blue Uniden consumer, or would you consider Radioshack ?
Consider driving over to Port Huron, Michigan and picking up a Pro-96
It sells for $499.99 US or about $630 CDN. (today's conversion rate)
Sad, but our Canadian retailers are gouging us. You are are paying
them for your convenience. I'd say go for a little drive or have it shipped
to you and you'll still come out ahead of ..< gag > Radioworld, who only
sells Uniden digital scanners.

Hey,

Scannermaster.com has the Pro96 for $439.95. Even cheaper then Radioshack.
I have BC796,BC296 and the Pro96 and they are all good. I actually like the sound quality better on the Pro96.

Decisions,Decisions eh!
Take care

Just remember, if you buy from Radioworld and there's a problem with the scanner...your stuck with it (dispite what there return/exchange policy is).

Guess you're not familiar with those bums. This alone would keep me away:

"RETURNS or EXCHANGES:
Radioworld does not offer refunds. In the event you are not satisfied with your purchase, we must be notified and an exchange will be offered within 10 days of receiving the item."

With all the rebanding and stuff coming up in the US, I would expect to see some good deals on early Uniden digital radios, such as the BC250d and the 785d. Since these radios are being left behind and can't be upgraded to work in rebanded areas there might be a fair number of people looking to unload them. I had a 250 for a while and was generally happy with it. I far prefer the audio on my Pro-96, but if the price was right I wouldn't be afraid to get another 250. Right now I've gotta start saving my pennies for the new BC396 :)

Just to let you know about Radioworld. When they were at Wilson Ave and the 401 I bought a scanner off them in the mid 1990's. While they were putting the mod chip in I had to take piss really bad. I asked them if I could use there washroom. The guy told me to go down the plaza to the pizza shop and use their washroom. I would never give those ______, one dime of my business again. Buyer beware with them. They have no customer service expereince. Bottom line is to take your money and _U.

Wilson and the 401 sounds more like Atlantic Ham Radio not Radioworld.

Sort of.

Back in May 1999 , Atlantic Ham Radio and Norham merged to
become Radioworld.

Getting back to the topic, Radioworld is not the place to find the most inexpensive handheld scanner to monitor the OPP.

I think it was more of Norham buying out Atlantic. Lutz stuck around for a while but didn't last long.

Cheapest handheld that scans P25 digital is probably a used BC250D with the card.

They were clearing them out about 6 months ago. Some good deals were had on scamBay and other places in the US.

Oh... I bought my 796D from RW. Never had any problems with those guys. Course... being a licenced ham helps. They seem to have contempt for anyone else.
