what is this antenna use for?

i saw this on a ship at an undisclosed location and was just courious?

Hard to say, the photo doesn't really provide any sense of scale or enough detail to tell for sure.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here, but looks like it could be some sort of biconic antenna with a shield over most of it. The extended ground sleeve underneath is interesting, could be trying to shield something else.

A biconic antenna would be really wide bandwidth and wouldn't be unusual to see on a naval vessel.

Just a guess, though.

what is this antenna use for

ok more inforamtion it is about 2 or 4 foot tall in total and was acherd a certain sea bee base.
on a ship this photo is a few years old i was useing zoom but the bar next to it is one of the radar blades.

Its a 100 to 1300MHz omni made by Rhode & Schwarz.

thank you for all the help, thought it kind of odd looking,
both on the BB and PM's that i got mistery solved, tried to look on google with no luck,
i guess i was looking in the wrong place,
