I see quite a few signals like the one below on the HF bands, particularly the lower bands. This one is on 4460 kHz. Anyone know what it is?

It is CODAR. Radar to study ocean waves and currents. Usually run by universities in states with an ocean coast. Common from 4.4 to about 5.3 MHz withs some higher frequencies. Google CODAR, you will find a lot of information.

Sounds cool on a radio through SSB. Often you can hear several of them at once. Sadly enough, it's not easy to ID them...

Not completely true. See the below and on the left, click on "BY FREQUENCY" and then click on an entry for more information.
