• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am looking to assign a button that will mute/toggle the speaker of the radio or speaker mic so that when using the mobile radio in the truck/engine I do not create a feedback loop. Is that what the feature "Voice Mute" does? If not does anyone know what that option would be called? Thank you.

No, that is not what Voice Mute does. Did you look in the CPS help file where it explains the Voice Mute feature?

There is no "audio mute" feature in the way you're thinking. You simply turn the volume down to avoid feedback.

Could Voice Mute be used to mute audio in a way it really wasn't intended for? I suppose so.

Yes, in CPS it says Voice Mute "Disables Voice Transmission". Is that my voice when speaking in the Mic or the audio coming from the speaker? Wasn't very clear to me. My previous speaker Mic had a feature where if the volume rocker is held down for 2 seconds it would mute the speaker. That is what I am looking to accomplish here.

Is this an APX you're referring to? The APX CPS says a lot more about Voice Mute than that.

Basically, it's intended to mute the RX audio from a channel until a call or page is received. It works in conjunction with In-Call User Alert.

It was never intended to be used as a general mute feature, but again...if you spend some time learning the features in CPS, you might be able to use Voice Mute as a hack to mute all RX audio. It's possible, however, that as soon as you key up on that radio Voice Mute will be disabled automatically...I don't recall, you'll have to experiment with it yourself.

Thanks for the info. The help file I was referring to was the one that shows up in CPS v25 of my APX programming software. Is there another source that might explain the features more in depth, as you did? I would like to learn as much as possible but I am afraid the help file in the CPS software is rather terse.

I cannot seem to enable Voice Mute without having other settings enabled in the CPS software. Settings that involve changing the transmission type that I am hesitant to do. I only operate in analog mode and do not make use of any trunking.

Right, because it was never intended to do what you want it to do.
