• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Just checking to see if anyone has any information on trunked system WPPU560. This is a UHF trunked system and appears it may be for the FDNY but not sure.

That there is the NYC-DOITT Channel 16 system - named for UHF-TV channel 16, which is slowly being decommisioned from TV use and to be reused for public safety. All the fireground and chief-repeater freqs are obviously not repeater-site dependant and can be implemented (fairly) immediately. As for the actual trunking system itself, it's a matter of time. There is currently a broadcaster in the region on ch. 16 and they're analyzing interference problems (to both ends). Check out:

and my favorite:

gonna be city-wide and (theoretically) everyone is going on it - be the first to identify active repeater sites! Keep us up to date on the progress! (I don't hear as much as I used to, since I moved 1300 miles away)
