What is wrong with it

I just purchased my PRO-97 and now the volume will not work at all(no audio) except at like 3/4 of the way up and even then the audio volume varies and changes. Can someone tell me what is wrong with it.

Bad volume pot? In any case, if you purchased it within the last 30 days from your local Radio Shack, return it for a replacement, they have a 30 day return policy.

I don't know. If the problem is a bad volume pot, then you would need a new one. If it's under warranty, you would have to send it off to the repair center to get the new part installed. Which is why I would just return it to Radio Shack for an exchange. If you want to know about a home repair, I have no clue.

Ok thank you it just has me a little pissed I just bought the thing a week ago and already something is wrong with it. I thought something must have been wrong with it though because it just isn't as sensitive as my pro-95 and it seems to be built cheaper.

the pro-97 is a great scanner i had to take my 1 st one back to that was over 200 days ago and i am thinking about getting two more crazy i know but i just love this scanner

Radio Shack makes excellent scanners. Just take the radio back. There can be a bad one no matter what brand you buy, so many parts in them that something can simply go bad. I have a 97 and I'm happy with it.

how is the volume with extension speaker? those speaker jacks can cause problems with internal speaker/ external also! sometimes just plugging in a jack a few times, will clear up the problem.

I have plugged in the headphones a few times because the speaker is too loud at the only level it works at. I just moved to Arizona on Tuesday and bought the scanner a week ago Saturday in Lincoln NE, I lost the receipt and the original packaging so basically I'm screwed.

sorry to hear that! yeah, it sounds like the control is bad. if your good at soldering, i'd just order a new control and replace it. i don't know what their minimum flat rate is maybe $50.00 or so and the control would be a lot cheaper i'm sure. good luck!

Yea Im gonna give them a call on Monday hopefully I can work something out I mean they put it in the computer that you bought the item so maybe if I can prove that I am who I am and they verify that on the computer I should be able to get a new one.

Two thoughts,
1) RS usually goes thru the name and address drill, the location you bought it from should be able to furnish the purchase info to a nearby RS. It's about time that we, the customer finally got something out of that info.
2) Did you use a credit card? If yes, that info can be gotten from the credit card company.

Don't go inside that case while it's under warranty....then you will be outta luck.

If you bought it under 30 days, take it back with the receipt, and as long as their is no physical damage, they will swap it out for a new one. If they don't, and say that they have to send it to repair, just tell them you want your money back then, and then buy a new one from another guy working there. It would piss of the guy who sold it to you (especially if he is the one who is taking the return and insisting on a repair).

yeah, you should be in their computer still and they can just take a new one out of its box give it to you, and just put yours in the box and send it back as i've done that before my self! best of luck!

Well I finally got another scanner, I called customer service and talked to some lady who called the RS in Nebraska and got the receipt from them then she tried to e-mail me the info from the receipt and that didn't work so she gave me the numbers from it. The I went to RS here in AZ the tried to look it up and the numbers she gave me didn't exist, I was freaking out at this point thinking oh crap nothing is gonna work and im stuck with a broken scanner. Luckily the guy was really nice and did some calling around and got the right numbers and got me a scanner.
