What kind of antenna do I need?

I just got a Uniden 396 that has horrible reception with my county's new digital system. I am thinking of getting a new antenna but don't know which one. Anyone have any suggestions? The system makes the digital voice transmissions skip sometimes but analog works perfect with it. I can't figure it out.

It would help if we knew what county (state would be nice, too) you were in, so the frequencies can be matched to the antenna recommended, as well as whether you want a base, mobile or a better duckie. However, let's start here - if it's an 800 mhz system and you need a duckie, then I understand RS makes a 800 mhz duckie (cheap) that's supposed to work quite well.
