I use a Scantenna antenna. This is a very good antenna for my scanning needs. RG6U coax works the best with it.
I have it mounted on a tower 20' in the air. This is high enough that the wind load will not damage it. I use only the top 10' section of the tower with a 10' piece of electrical conduit tubing. Over the years, I found that electrial conduit makes the best mast because it will not bend in the strong winds like water pipe will. Then to service the antenna, I just take out the 10' mask and don't have to climb the tower.
I'm using a Diamond D-130 Discone that I've had for about 12 years. It's been through blizzards, ice storms and high winds and still looks and works great.
Scantenna here! Had it a little more than a week....it works okay for me. I am in a very rural area so I can't expect too much. Getting signals at about 60 miles, so it is pretty good.
I have a Diamond D-130 Discone up about 30 feet and a Scantenna about 5 feet off the roof. First priority this spring is to raise the Scantenna up
at least another five feet. C'mon warm weather
An Antron 99 stick mounted 80 feet up in the top of a pecan tree with RG-8 cable and good telco solid copper ground wire attached to two 8 foot copper rods with a jumper between them. Survived at least 10 hurricanes so far.
Scantenna, Radshack Discone, Workman 2m/70cm colinear, Astro-Plane 5/8 wave CB/10Meter. Some of these are used for transmitting, but all have been/are used for monitoring. Does my DirecTV dish count?
