I have placed Whistler 1065 desktop scanners in Greenville and Fenwick and understand they do well. You are north and west of those locations. The tower in your county is located in Stanton. There are towers in White Cloud, Big Rapids and Blanchard surrounding you. Your county is P25 P1 and not a simulcast system.

Just to let you know when all fire departments are on board with the state system, the entire state will be going encrypted everyone police fire etc.

What is your source on statewide encryption?

Some counties are encrypting their TG, but I have heard nothing of the whole system going encrypted.

This is not true... each user of the system chooses if they want to encrypt or not.

The MPSCS is a system, which is capable of encryption, but they don't mandate it - it's up to each user, each talkgroup, etc.

There will be plenty of TGs not encrypted.

You really shouldn't be posting something like this without a reliable source and all the facts. It's very misleading. People have been saying this for over two decades!

As of 2019, MPSCS has 89 encryption keys.
Least secure on top, more secure on bottom)
•ADP – 25 Keys
• DES-OFB – 46 Keys
• AES – 16 Keys
• UKEK – 2 Keys.
Notice how AES only has 16 keys, thats because they are much more expensive than the cheaper and less secure DES-OFB and ADP, which is the cheapest and least secure.
If they want to encrypt the whole state, they are gonna have to purchase more keys, which is tons of $$$. If they reuse the same keys, then its just less secure if it gets compromised. I'm not saying its impossible, but rather expensive and impractical for statewide encryption.

In my county, there are as many unencrypted talkgroups as there is encrypted. So depending on the county, it might be reality in the future.
