Hi everyone, I just moved into a country called Nebo, KY. We have mountains and a lot of hills. Right now I'm looking for three 3-4 handheld radios, and maybe 1 station radio. our phone carrier does not work in part of our property and I'm trying to keep my family safe. can you help me, what radio brand can work on our property

Hi Tsed,

It's not the brand of radio that matters, it'll be frequency, power level and antenna height that makes the difference.

But none of us can answer that without knowing some specifics about the area you want to cover, and what kind of budget you have.
There are just too many options to list off a specific brand/model and tell you that it'll work. Plus, you may have to deal with things like licensing, radio programming, etc.

Fill us in on some of the details and you'll get some good info.

Are you looking at some form of two-way communication? FMRS might be your answer there.

If you are looking for a scanner, then you could get by with a Uniden 996P2 base/mobile and 325P2 portable. The BCD series is a little more robust. The SDS series would work, but is more scanner than what is needed for just that area.

Kentucky is one of those states having no sense of humor when it comes to scanners in vehicles capable of receiving frequencies for police communications, unless you have an amateur radio license or other written permissions. (Those written permissions are not be given out, however.)

Fortunately, GA
Isolated area that you live in???
Landline maybe??
Cell phone booster??

3-4 handhelds linked to a base radio for just on the property?? GMRS isn't going to work to get you any help. LE doesn't monitor those frequencies.

You must be more specific in your needs. (y)
