What really is voice inversion?

I have a scrambled 900 MHz. phone and an audio edit program on my computer. I recorded my inverted (or scrambled voice) on to the computer into the audio edit program via my scanner and then one of the features the program has is invert it also has reverse I inverted the audio thinking that it would be unscrambled and it wasn’t. What happens when you click invert is the sin. Wave flips from say (+) to (-) and vice versa. I think then that there is something a lot more to inversion then meets the ear. I also tried reverse just to see what happened and nothing which did not surprise me. Knowing that is not really what happens. But maybe to some inverted audio formats. Where it is inverted and reversed. I have however tried a program that is for this and that worked. My question is what really is an inverted scrambled signal and are there other types? Thanks.

I don't know what your "invert" button does, but voice inversion works by inverting the frequencies around some particular frequency.

I.E.

if it is inverted arond 2500 Hz, then
2000 Hz becomes 500 Hz
1500 Hz becomes 1000 Hz
1000 Hz becomes 1500 Hz
500 Hz becomes 2000 Hz

Your invert buttom probably inverteed the phase, + becomes -.

Youe ears are unable to detect phase, it only has an effect when you have more than one signal to compair such as with stereo.

what programs were you useing, id like to use one?

n_jay, would you take the same simple explanation and put it to the pro 96 firmware revisions.... just curious about future expenditures.... just bought eight 96's and wondering if i really need to worry about them working in the next few years....

I realy don't know much about the scanner upgrades.

I am sure they will "work", the question would be how many "new: features and/or bug fixes thay will release.

If that scanner requires a prom or processor change, I would bet they will limit it since that is expensive.

Software flash upgrades make more sense, but have there own issues.
