OK, So I am totally new to the scanner community but I am pretty experienced in the radar detector dept. In addition to my new RD I've been really anxious to get a scanner. I like in Collier County, FL...I was initially looking at the Radio Shack Pro-164 but I read some sub-par reviews in comparison to the Pro-106. Here is the RR link to my county:

Scanner Frequencies: Collier County Trunking System, Collier County, Florida

Keeping my county in mind, of the Pro-164 and the pro-106...which would you purchase? Money is kind of an issue but if the 106 has a HUGE advantage over the 164 then I wont have a problem getting the 106.

Thanks in advance

If it was me, I would buy the Pro-164. Your county systems is an Edacs anolog system. You don't need the digital capabilities of the 106. I have a GRE Psr-300, which is the same as the 164 and it work's excellent on my local Edacs sytem. This is just my opinion.:)

Keep in mind that if you wish to hear something outside of Collier that does use P25 digital, you'd be out of luck. That too is something to consider. Something else - if you wish to log, record and scan while you're away, neither the PSR300/400 nor the PRO-163/164 can do that - it's not provided for in the firmware. The Uniden BCT15 can, however, and it will handle EDACS systems just fine. It will not do P25 digital, however.

Questions like this are best posed in the regional forum where the question covers - in this case, the Florida forum. You might get some more local opinions there. 73 Mike
