You can program (with software like ARC-XT, ProScan etc.) the Splash Screen to say anything you want. I have mine programmed with my name and phone number should my radio be lost.

It is possible a previous owner used the same software and files for both a 396 and a 325.

No. Didn’t literally say what it was. Just it was programmed already for where I live

Uniden has been putting part number/serial number labels in the battery compartment for it's newer portables. That is where you should find the label in that radio. Also where the Alkaline/NiCad switch is located (effectively enables/disables battery charging in radio)

with freescan you can change the splash screen to say anything you want.
as you see, it can have a disadvantage.
having a 396T it is a 396T.

I don’t see an option in freescan to change it. I’d like to change it back to what it originally was

The 396xt looks to be more of a silver color around the keypad. Also the 396xt has round holes below the keypad, not rectangular.

FYI: The 396 is P25 Phase 1 only, whereas 325 is P25 Phase 1 and 2 capable. I'm not sure what other differences there are as far as system types that can be monitored. I liked the 396. It had a better battery life since it used 3 batteries rather than 2 as in the 325. But alas I monitor a huge P25 Phase 1 and 2 system, and when it began using Phase 2 I had to switch to a newer scanner which could monitor Phase 2. If you listen to P25 systems and they go silent, it might be an indication that they are now using Phase 2, which the 396 cannot hear.
