What scanner to buy?

Hello What scanner out there will cover all new freq. spacing? Do they cover all trunking systems.. Can they be modified ? Do they let you reprogram them and are they able to listen to digital systems? Radio systems are in a state of change..Thanks Angelo

Mods are up to you the user, though you will kill the warranty by modding, and possibly make the scanner do illegal things.

There are still a few things that you can't hear, and NO scanner will ever do:

Motorola iDen Digital
Motorola ASTRO using VSELP Digital
Any Encrypted Coms
TETRA Trunking
Satellite Communications Systems (too complex to explain why never here)

Hi thanks for fast reply i will check out the scanners as for mods well they have to catch you first..LOL Anyway i see aircraft band has new freq spacing.. I am not wanting to hear celluar yuck.Do want to be able to hear most i can tho allso into shortwave and old radios..Thany you! c u later on..Angelo

For the most part the Uniden models 796D and 296D is your best bet for the new aviation spacing. Now that the milair band has been reorganized in 25Khz rather than 50. It trunks, does digital, covers most if not all of the new VHF/UHF air spacing requirements, etc. If you get one and you want to listen to Smyrna (I guess you do) use plan 4 if you use the control channel only mode or just plug in all the freqs.

Hello thanks for al the info on what scanner..Right now i do not see any i like so will wait a year..Mean time i watch to see what comes out new..My old Pro 2006 still works so..Later Angelo
